A Bit About Me

My name is AnnaClaire Curl and I'm a senior majoring in fashion design and minoring in fashion merchandising at the University of North Texas. Let me tell you a bit about my journey! Growing up, I often imagined daring escapades to rescue damsels or become a regal monkey queen, all in the woods outside my home. I grew along with the trees, wild and beautiful as I walked between my grandparents’ house and my own. The freedom I felt in crafting those fantastical worlds inspired me to become a fashion storyteller.

I find inspiration in childhood nostalgia such as in Mary Engelbreit’s illustrations, modern media like Bee and PuppyCat, and fantastical fairytale creatures. My mother’s oft-echoed adage, “be good, be sweet, be wonderful,” is what I believes fashion should be: good, sweet, and wonderful. As a designer, I specialize in gender inclusive conceptual garments and strive to create narratives in my work. I believe the world would be a more beautiful place with fashion that tells queer love stories and instills a sense of fantasy, an aurora borealis color palette, things that sparkle, soft fabrics, and handmade touches. I also enjoys contrasting those elements with references to queer sexuality.

Throughout my experience at the High School for the Performing and Visual Arts and my college career at UNT, I've created ensembles for the stage and produced garments for local runway shows. I've gained expertise in industrial sewing, design team leadership, and fashion illustration. In my journey, I hope to create a queer fashion artist collective where designers collaborate with artists and storytellers to create narrative collections through various creative avenues.
